Managing narcissistic employees in the workplace requires a "protective preventative approach" grounded in empathy, which will bring out their most creative attributes while shielding other employees from potential harm, according to a conflict skills coach.<!–MORE–>

New research suggests that specific performance-based management techniques are the best way to draw out workplace creativity from narcissistic employees.

However, conflict consultant Elizabeth Williamson notes that when it comes to narcissists, solely relying on performance-based management techniques can mean leaders fail to protect other employees from the narcissist’s behaviour.
